Welcome to Fresh Film Festival

Fresh Film Festival is the place for all you aspiring young filmmakers to have your masterpieces screened in front of captive audiences, get invaluable feedback, see the latest inspiring feature films, take part in workshops and enter for consideration in the Ireland’s Young Filmmaker Competition annually.

We programme events year round and try to keep abreast of what’s happening with youth film abroad. We love to hear what Irish young filmmakers are up to and provide support in any way we can. So get in touch and keep an eye on the website for upcoming events and opportunities!

…and ACTION!

ME, YOU AND EVERYONE WE KNOW

One of the things that makes filmmaking fun is that you can include a bunch of people in the action of transforming an idea into a reality, from script to final cut, ready for screening at Fresh.
Collaboration for young filmmakers involves working with friends and parents. Even if you’re beavering away with your camera and computer in your bedroom, making an animation on your own, inevitably the process of getting your thoughts and dreams to screen means working with others. Collaboration can be tricky because, essentially, you are trying to get people to do what you want them to do… and often your ace ‘production team’ is made up of friends and family doing you a favour by giving you their time and opinions. How many times do you have a scene set up in your head or on paper, only to have it changed as you discuss it with actors, your cameraperson and others? Teamwork can be complex because you can only push things so far before your cast and crew revolt…
Film is an art form and as you set out to create a piece of art you will need to think about your allies; the people who will help you transform your imaginings into a shared moment on screen. The good news is that your school, friends, parents, group leaders, teachers and communities are only too willing to help you. When they see the interest and passion you have in your project, they will in turn offer some help and encouragement. Your main challenge is to harness that goodwill, ask for help when you need it, and build support towards getting your brilliant idea made into a unique film. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll be surprised that working with friends and family can be one of the most enjoyable experiences of making your film. Don’t be scared to ask for help, we expect they’ll queue up to give you a hand.
We look forward to seeing your work at Fresh 2013. We’ll be there to watch it with you and your friends and your family.
