Fresh Film Festival takes a trip to Austria...
19th – 26th November 2006
Hi Everyone...
I just got back form a week-long trip to Wels in Austria with a few of our wonderful young filmmakers. It was a partnership cooperation between Youki Festival Austria, Tampere Festival Finland, Berlin Jugend Festival Germany, Bluebox from Brixen Itlay and Fresh Film Festival.
5 of us went over, Devin Anderson, Cliona Ashe, Eoghan McQuinn and Daniel Flemming . OH and of course ME! Emma (who has all the hard jobs!) It was a great week but we did encounter a few problems along the way.
The Programme we sought the funding from for the trip was an EU youth programme, details of which can be found on the Leargas website. The scheme itself is not without its difficulties. There are time restrictions and number restrictions and financial restrictions which, shared with inexperience, created some difficulties. But as it was our first time participating in such a big exchange we felt that we learnt a lot and could now put forward our own plans for cooperation here in Ireland in the future. Some of the highlights of the trip were meeting all the other young filmmakers from other countries who are really making some wonderful films some of which I really hope to show at our festival in March. Also some of our films will be going to the Berlin Jugend festival this year for screening! How exciting is that!
The filmmakers also took part in a workshop with well known Austrian filmmaker Florian Flicker who’s Documentary 'NO Name City' was the opening film at this years Austrian Film Festival. What a wonderful film, I strongly recommend it to anyone who could get their hands on it. (how easy that is I don't know!)
So I wish to say thanks to our Austrian hosts Youki who’s festival is really wonderful!

6 Fresh young filmmakers go to Edinburgh for Scottish / Irish Film festival...
27th – 29th October 2006
Six young filmmakers who participated in Ireland Young Filmmaker Awards in March 2006, traveled over to Edinburgh for the Halloween weekend to see their films being screened at the first Scottish/Irish film festival 'Reel'. Eoghan McQinn, Bryan O'Sullivan, Ciaran Maginn, Conor Barry, James McDonnall and Luke Shortt were the lucky guys chosen to go over. The weekend began on Friday evening at the launch. On Saturday the young Irish filmmakers met up with young Scottish filmmakers and they began work on two short films, which they finally finished editing late Sunday night. The films were screened on Sunday in filmhouse cinema in Edinburgh. All in all it was a fantastic weekend and we look forward to having the Scottish filmmakers over to Ireland in the near future.
Fresh Film Festival would like to thank all the staff at Filmhouse for their hard work and wonderful hospitality, Graham and Andrea who worked so hard all weekend with the young filmmakers to produce the short films and Cliona Manahan, the Irish Consulate General to Scotland who's wonderful idea it was to begin with!
