  In the senior section:

Ireland’s Young Filmmaker 2008!!!

1st Prize went to Laurence Snashall, of Sploink Productions, Cork, for the film ‘ALIEN VERBATIM’ for it’s use of available new technologies and utilising this technology in a coherent manner.

2nd Prize
Second prize has been presented to Kevin Phelan, from Dublin, for his film ‘Eyelight’ which deals with something that is of huge importance to filmmakers; light.

3rd Prize
Third prize went to Justine Stafford, from Co. Meath, for the film ‘The Evolution of Laziness with Technology’, for showing good humour in presenting our changing world and how technology affects all aspects of our lives.

Radharc Documentary Highly Commended:
The Highly Commended Award in the Radharc Documentary section goes to Bernie Casey and Mary Ann O’Reilly for ‘Life As We Know It’, for detailing two stories about difficult aspects of each of the filmmakers lives.

A Radharc Documentary Highly Commended was awarded at Cork Regional Heat: ‘One Life, One Chance’, Freesong Productions, Loretto Secondary School, Cork.

Highly commended 1
The first highly commended award went to F.A.N Project, Dublin, for the film ‘Sud’s Law’, for the overall standard of performance in this film.

Highly Commended 2
This commendation went to Laura Waters from the Digital Film School, Dublin, for the film ‘Stalker’, because of the craft involved in the work and the completeness in relation to the story.

Highly Commended 3
Our third Highly commended was presented to Mountown Youth Group for their films ‘No Drugs for Me’, ‘Trapped’ and ‘Youth Hostel’, for a group for their work.

Highly Commended 4
The 4th Highly Commended Award was presented to the film ‘The Golden Crucifix’ – director Nick Sheridan, Wexford, on the basis of the strong story and scriptwriting within the piece.

Group Prize
The annual group award was presented to the following ensemble film: ‘The Sub’ from Clongowes Wood College, Kildare; as film is a collaborative art form requiring group interaction to achieve results and the Festival wishes to encourage such projects.

Filmbase Heat: ‘ The Last of the Gingers’, from Simon Horgan

Cork Heat: ‘TV34 News’, from Ross Films

Limerick Heat: ‘Broken’, Limerick Youthreach

Galway Heat: ‘Misunderstood’ and ‘Room 15’, by Trading Faces Stage School.

IYF Awards: ‘The Sub’ from Clongowes Wood College, Co. Kildare

In the Junior section:

Brown Bag Animation Award Winner

This years Brown Bag Animation award went to the 5th Class at the Sacred Heart School, Portlaoise for ‘The Last Penguin’. Each year Brown Bag Animation offers an award to a film that excels in that field.

This could be awarded to an animator in the Junior or Senior Section. This year the award was presented for the animation’s attention to detail and strong used of clay models.

Radharc Trust Documentary Award Winner

The Radharc Documentary Award goes to Patrickswell National School, Limerick for their film ’Sneakers’, which details the effects our purchases have on communities in developing nations.
The Festival in association with Radharc Films presents an Annual Documentary Award for either a junior or senior section films.

1st Prize Ireland’s Junior Young Filmmaker 2008!!!

The Junior Irish Filmmakers of the Year Award went to 5th Class, Geallscoil Ultain, Co. Monaghan, for their film ‘Ruairi’, a film that, in good humour, gives us some tips on how to deal with bullies.

2nd Prize

Second prize went to Leon O’Connor for his film ‘Star Wars Birthday Bust-up’, a great piece of animation that used already created characters and presented them in a new way.

3rd Prize
Third prize goes to the film ‘Adios Ireland’ from Ballinadee National School, Cork, the story of a toy who takes a trip to see the world and ends up falling in love with a Spanish senorita.

Highly Commended 1 for very high production values, went to the film ‘Treasured Moments’, produced by Scoil Eoin, Innishannon, Co. Cork.
Shot on location, the film details the love story between a man and a woman and the terrible event that befalls them.

Highly Commended 2, for art direction, went to Our Lady of Mercy National School, Bantry, Co. Cork, for the film ‘Fussy Fish’. This animated piece used paper cutouts to tell the tale of a fish that has great concern in what it will and won’t eat.
